[s-cars] Silly question - cryo treated rotors

I've run cryo rotors before. They did last a good bit longer but they
didn't seem to have the same 'bite' as standard rotors.

Hi Y'all,
I frequently see ads for cryogenically treated rotors at, of course,
premium prices. Laying all the bullcrap aside is there actually any
added value for this treatment or is it just marketing hype? IOW, is
it worth the added expense in terms of better performance or longer life
or...?

Hey all,
I'm looking into short shifters for my Ur S6. I'm aware of the Apikol and I
know Bilcatz made one, but I can't locate bilcatz on the internet. Does
anyone know if they're still in business?
Also, are there are any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Alex

Hey guys,
OK, so I put in fresh NGK BKR7EIX plugs this morning, and things greatly
improved, however still not right. Whereas the car is definitely much more
driveable now, it still cuts out at high boost. No more stumble at lower
revs under load, and the stumbles are fewer and shorter, but still there at
high boost particularly between 3K-4K RPM in third and fourth gear (haven't
had the road to get it in fifth under boost yet.)
Unplugged the injectors again and the car is just not driveable with any of
the injectors unplugged. The miss is quite apparent, and different from
what I normally experience.
Also tried unplugging the MAF sensor, and the car is jerky and undriveable
until the revs come up, even then "limping" for sure.
I did not replace the spark plug boots, as I wanted to see if the plugs made
the difference. Is this the next step?
I now defer to the list and it's infinite wisdom........
Thanks!

I laughed when my father told me he was running cryo-treated rotors on
his 944T race car. So, he took me out to the garage and plunked down
two sets of rotors. The set that were cryo-treated were in much
better condition. He found he got more races out of a set of
cryo-treated rotors.
This of course does not mean that it translates to the street- in this
case, high-temperature racing pads in club racing, not street driving
or even lapping days. I'm not completely convinced- but it's not a
massive stretch of the imagination, given how long we've been heat
treating metals.

This sure sounds like a coil breaking down at high boost. Did you do the
spark gap test on each coil, then replace the weakest coil? This would be
my next approach. The plug boots could be the problem and that is an easy
fix. Those should be replaced at 100k miles anyway.

These "a guy I know" posts are a real pain in the butt. Both the
authors of
this issue are well known to the list and posted their comments on an
open
forum. Nothing was received in confidence that required not revealing
the
source. This thread sure could have been a lot shorter.
Now that you guys have this information, what exactly do you plan to
do with
it, other than hope, as one lister posted?
The price of AAN ECUs just went up.

Sorry it was a "pain in the butt" whatever that means when all you are doing
is reading replies and hitting "delete" (rolls eyes). As I clearly stated -
the original question was "are people seeing issues with the HO coils with
their AAN ECUs" I stated a reason for my question/concern and some people
focused on the reason why I asked - not the actual question - and as the
original poster I wanted to stay off tangents.
Thank you to those who replied - it was helpful.

Great link, and addresses just what I was suspecting... so it's an OEM
driver chip in the ECU going, not a 'chipped ECU' chip aka EPROM.

Correct, the former Bilzcat design is now sold by 034. The Apikol and 034
short shifters actually work very differently, and several people I know
have the two kits together.
