[s-cars] Teen car

Thanks Vittorio:

Over the years, I may have been TOO lucky ;)

But, one thing I believe we can agree on, is inexperienced drivers, in todays world, have a much more difficult time gaing the skills needed to be safe behind the wheel.

I hope to raise my kids in go-cart and car autocrossing when they get to those ages, as knowing a cars limits, and what can happen if those limits are exceeded, is invaluable information.

Best regards,
Kevin

Yikes! You’re a lucky man – regardless what was around you. But certainly for the day, these were solid cars. I ran a 1972 145wagon, sold it to my gf at the time – she rolled it and walked away…

I think the point is that todays technology doesn’t predicate that the car needs to be a big heavy beast to be safe…

Glad you’re ok though J

I would disagree.  The times haven't changed as much as you would think.

1989 ish, I was hit head-on / offset by a Trans-am.  The SHP stated the Trans-Am was doing in excess of 100 mph when he left the road (grass divided median).  Me.  1982 Volvo 244DL 4sp + O/D.  I was doing ~65 in a 55 (Interstate 40).  Front tire was under back door.  Motor was in transmission tunnel.  Transmission was in the trunk.  After being cut from the car (door would not open), I walked away with sore wrists.  I was 21 at the time.

The driver of the Trans-Am was carried away in an ambulance.

IMO only, there is NO substitute for a solid, well made car with proper 3 point harnesses.
