Not sure, but sounds like the clevis was not adjusted properly when the slave was replaced.
Someone with experience on this might be able to comment on the likelyhood of the adjustment range having that much effect, but if the clutch functions properly I would try adjusting the rod in the clevis.

Hello to everybody! I just became an S-car owner again! :)
Yesterday, I picked up a new-to-me '94 S4. The clutch pedal sits about 2"
lower than the brake pedal, and I have to push it all the way in to make the
clutch release. It will grip again less than 1" from the floor, otherwise
feels normal. I can't pull the clutch pedal any higher, but remembering my
previous S4 and my dad's 100, the brake and clutch pedals should rest at the
same height.
Does anyone know what could be wrong?
