[s-cars] Trunk won't open. Glad to be back!

Mike,
I had this same problem a couple months back. First and I'm not sure if
anyone has mentioned this yet but my 93 S4 trunk button in the glove box
only works when the key is turned to on, I just always assumed mine didn’t
work until I spent the time to figure it out. That would have saved me a
couple hours, but I did manage to use a looong fabricated screwdriver to
take off a couple of the lower left screws on the inside trunk liner
(looking through the ski hole). Then I used a combination of an extra wiper
arm to hold back the liner and bent wire hanger to grab the metal wire that
opens the trunk latch. I can elaborate if need be, but its proof that it
can be done and that I am an idiot for not trying the trunk button with the
key turned on.

Mike,

I don't think you've received much helpful advice.

1. Obviously you want to make triple damn sure the trunk lock isn't locked.

2. Gaining access to the inside of the trunk via seat removal or an ultra
slim fast diet and slide
through the ski sack won't help, there are 10-12 screws that hold the liner
in place that would
need to be removed to even begin to gain access. Then you would have to
remove the nuts
for the taillight, etc.

3. It sounds mechanical and not electrical to me, I repeat my reccomendation
that you spray the
insides of the lock liberally with kroil or penephite to try and get the
works moving again.

4. If all else fails you will need a new taillight lens as cutting the
existing lens to gain access to the
lever with a nice large screwdriver to manually activate the trunk release
is my only other solution.
