Well here's my experience, we purchased one soon after our daughter Aria was born, unfortunately for us
we ended up crash testing it ~8 months later in our 2002 Allroad (5 weeks after Allroad purchase).
This accident was essentially a head on collision at 40 mph.
My wife injured her knee on the dash, I had normal soreness/injuries from the airbag deploying, the
Britax car seat didn't move at all and Aria was not injured.
Granted this device is essentially a ratchet strap without the strap, as such it has the capability of applying alot of tension
on the seat belt it is attached to. If used by someone who doesn't pay attention it could tighten the belt too much placing undue
strain on it...but I believe use of common sense should eliminate that issue.
I would be less worried about damage to a seat belt from overtightening and more worried about the seat belt being too loose.
When I use it I slip my knee into the seat pressing down and tightening the seat belt (with mighty tite in place) as much as possible,
I then use the mighty tite to ensure the seat belt is properly tightened.
We liked the mighty tite so much that when ours was left in a rental car...and mysteriously disappeared within 2 hours of our
dropping off the car...that my wife insisted we immediately purchase another.
YMMV
Chris
