Sounds like you have a decent plan for this.  IIRC I used 

some epoxy and  Kevlar material I had lying around and it

has held for many bumps and years now.  JB weld and some 

mesh fabric may work as well.

Aluminum and pop rivets sound like a good plan for the 

outer pieces.

I hate the hatch trim pieces. all of them BTW.

How about a group buy on all new inner hatch crap?
