Make sure the notches on the radio removal tool go towards the inside
(towards the radio). When you insert the tools, listen for the first
'click' and stop there. Try putting your fingers inside the cassette window
to pull. Don't pull on the removal tools. Pulling on the tools can
disengage the clip. Keep wiggling side-to-side while pulling. Some radios
seem to fit tighter than others. If you get the head unit out, be careful
putting it back in so that there are no kinks in the cable that get
compressed behind the head. This puts forward pressure on the head and the
clips don't release as easily. The cables should fit to the side or below
the head.

Hello all,

I purchased a Concert head unit from a fellow lister with the intent of
using it in my 95.5 S6A to control a Phatbox. I installed the Concert head
unit several months ago with no issues, didn't even need to enter the
security code. Now, I am finally installing the harness and the Phatbox and
need to remove the head unit to complete this. I have the correct radio
removal tools, which worked on the original radio but they don't seem to
"release" anything in the head unit slots, and I can't get the radio out of
the dash. I definitely don't want to break anything by tugging too hard on
it. I looked again at the old head unit, but can't figure out what the
tools are not releasing. Just for grins, I used the exact same tools on a
friends TT which has the Concert head unit and they worked fine.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? I'd love to get this
little project wrapped up, but am stumped. I really don't want to go
ripping out the dash to get at this. Oh, and for whatever reason, since
trying to remove the head, it now is not functioning. Maybe I managed to
unplug something in the process of trying to remove?

Thanks,

Ron Kirkham

Ron,

You have somehow awakened the audigods.

but

Note step #2 here

Maybe it helps, maybe not. Dunno.

If you have the old delta radio, look at that to view the operation of those
side clips.

A high-tech jiggle sometimes helps. or dynamite.
