[s-cars] Head gasket cost

Last week, I disappointingly discovered that my new (to me) S6A has a
bad head gasket.  I am unable to repair myself due to lack of a
garage, tools, and a good guideline...

Can anybody suggest what price range to expect when having a shop do
it for me?  I got one estimate but I feel that it's extremely high.

Also, what can I expect if the head is cracked in some way, in terms
of machine shop costs?  I suspect that it's not just the head gasket,
but I don't really have any way of knowing until somebody gets in
there.
