Peter-
I wouldn't worry about the lack of a lifetime warranty from Sears.
If you buy a torque wrench from any of the tool trucks, they also only
have a 90 day warranty, IIRC. The exception is the ratchet head.
Your needs probably fall right in between a 3/8" 5 to 100 ft/lbs
wrench and a 1/4" drive which you need for anything torqued to 7 ft
lbs. Just realize that using the 3/8" wrench for a 7 ft lb torque
fastener is at the edge of the devices range and thus not as accurate.
So with all that in mind, calibration is the most important thing. I
don't know if Sears gives you a piece of paper saying how the wrench
is calibrated out of the box- Snap on does. That may or may not be
important to you.
But, we are also not on the assembly line building something that
requires a high degree of precision.
YMMV,
