[s-cars] Oil Temperature Question-How Hot is too hot

Manny-
The C6 has an integrated oil cooler in the stock radiator. The DeWitt
setup I described earlier is an improvement of that design. While it's
true that the real race cars use an external cooler (actually several
coolers), DeWitt is the OE for the radiators and their thick core rads
cool the car down significantly- 30-40F cooler in water temps under
stress.

There is also a Griffin radiator- don't know if they're as good.

Separate oil cooler in a C6 becomes a PITA due to plumbing- you have
to rework the whole cooling system setup if you do that and there is
limited space to put the cooler- the Sahlens Grand-Am cars use an oil
cooler setup that is located under the rear hatch, with scoops to feed
it. Not practical for street use, obviously.

Since we're talking about Audi UrS cars, as I said before, you might
want to explore the possibility of retrofitting one of these combo
rads into your car- measure the dimensions available and compare to
the dimensions of the radiator- right in front is an excellent spot to
put an oil cooler.

Otherwise, you're faced with the challenge of locating a separate
cooler- ask Scott J. for advice on how he does his installs.

Doesn't really matter if you don't have an undertray- you can always
buy a new one. If you can't install a stock one due to the LLTek stuff
and the FMIC, I'd fab one up- if you can get a good thick ABS or PU
plastic sheet to work with, all the better, otherwise fab one in
aluminum sheet.
