Good advice, Stott.  However, if the problem is that the little 
retainer clip on the end of the cable has come off then it is 
impossible to pull the cable far enough to pop the release.  Then 
you're stuck until you remove the belly pan and reach up from below 
with your arm so you can operate the release lever by hand (with 
concomitant sacrifice of about a half liter of blood to the Audi gods).
