[s-cars] hood latch

If you can't fish the cable through the grill, you can remove the latch
handle from the lower a-pillar. The cable end ball can be removed from the
lever and by pulling on that separately, while holding the sheath in place,
you can get enough extra travel to open the hood.
Replace the two plastic clips (4A0 823 570) the cable routes through on the
core support. They are dirt cheap at the dealer, but in the two cases where
I replaced them, they also didn't work out of the box. The 'slit' in the
fingers were narrower then the gauge metal of the core support they were
supposed to engage over. With careful razorblade trimming you can enlarge
the gap so the clips lock into the core properly.
The cable passes through two hollow 'golf tees' (443 823 597A/4A0 823 597)to
engage in the latch releases. If yours are plastic, I would highly
recommend replacing them with the metal versions. Sorry I don't have an
exact part number for these, but they were found on some earlier VAG
products (Scirocco, 5000 etc). 811 823 555 should be a metal one for the
very end, with an integrated set screw.

Subject: [s-cars] hood latch
Hello everyone,
I am having problems opening my hood and the latch will not do it. I
think that the cable has gotten loose and lost some of the play it in. Any
advice on how I can get my hood open. Is there a way to tighten the wire at
the latch by my feet?
