You definitely want to keep it greased, problem is if the boot
is too torn the centrifgiual force will throw it out and let dirt in.
I swear there used to be "universal CV boot kit"s that wrap around the
axle and seals shut with screws. Otherwise I would try greasing it
and then clean the boot as throughly as possible and then wrap duct tape
around it a few million times to try and seal it up. Obviousl you are
going to want to keep an eye on this as you continue your voyage.
Where are you, I have a friend in Buffalo who might be able to provide a
place to work on it. Where are you headed to, perhaps someone ahead of you
can be of assistance.
