Teddy,
When I replaced the AC compressor on my 93 S4 with R12, the tech
evaced the system, cleaned system of old lubricant and switched
it over to R134 lubricant and gas.
Granted it was a new R12 compressor, but it was nice and cold and worked
great until I wrecked the car 1,019 miles later!
I still have the compressor and receiver drier (also replaced) if you need them.
HTH
