Jack -

yeah, a few people have agreed with your point about the OEM system really
not being so bad, but the Audi solution is still damned expensive and a bit
poorly designed (POS's, wiring to the coils, etc.) if you do shell for a
full boat OEM system I'm sure you're right you should expect a good nuther
100K. I completely rewired my OEM coilpacks with high spec high temp teflon
wire and they are rocking their way towards 200k.

also true that the LS2 solution promises are similar to what the old 1.8T
promises were, but it IS a more robust unit, and not being COP should last
much longer. especially the D585 or whatever they are with the heat sinks.
after all 1.8T's (and 2.7T's for that matter) are known to have coil
problems themselves so it's not a huge surprise that option didn't work out
so great, while the LS2 coils run on a ton of GM products with extremely
positive performance reports (as well as now a ton of other hot-rodders and
modders using them on other cars for that reason). and though Marc's offer
is relatively recent for the AAN-Audi there's a fair number of 'homebrews'
on the street that seem to be working great (he's just pre-making the
harness and mounting rack for you).

lastly, yes the 034 HO kit is 'semi-proprietary'. OK so few electronic items
in Auto world are completely proprietary (aren't they like marine engine
coils or something weird like that?) at least the actual part number / spec
isn't known to anybody that I've heard so they aren't available at any
dealer/parts-shop like either 1.8T or even better the LS2 coils. that said
it seems to be a nice kit - I agree 100% with Chris' last post, I'd probably
choose the EFIExpress myself but others may choose the 034 and it's a good
option too given their support for the product, and kudos for them for
developing more options for our 'obsolete' motor.
