T Man,
Found this link that may / should sort of give you an idea of what's
involved.

Not really as scary as it may appear. Unfortunately the whole thing has to
come out in order to remove the (torx?) screws that attach the motor to the
assembly and it does make it much easier to see the workings.
Take a look at this pic:

Since I had an S4 regulator replacement in hand and the motor does not match
up to the S6 motor, I had to reuse the S6 motor with the S4 cable.
There was a benefit to this in that I found that it was probably easier to
do this that to remove the four rivet bastards from hell that hold the up n
down rail to the window assembly. In other words, keep / reuse the old up n
down rail. Check it out. Leave as much as you can together and attach the
new motor and cable to the old assembly. The little blue pulley wheels in
this pic actually have little V cut outs to allow a new cable to be routed
in there. I forget how but the cable can be slackened to allow removal and
then tightened up again once reinstalled.
I guess I should have done a write up on this, but I had improvised so much
going along, in the end I could not remember the step by step.
Should not be too bad an operation for a man of your geniusness. Budget
three hrs, finish in two.
