[s-cars] Headlight ballast

I'm not familiar with the B5 S4 setup, but the standard HID components are
the bulb, the ballast, and the igniter. Some ballasts have the igniter built
in, some systems (the TT is one) have a separate igniter. Any component can
fail.
I'd first check the fuse to make sure it's OK. Then swap the ballast from
the good headlight to the bad headlight to see if that fixes the problem. If
it does, you need a new ballast. If it doesn't, you have another problem.
The same goes for the igniter if it is separate from the ballast.
Ebay parts are fine if they are OEM. If they are not, you are taking a
chance that they may not be compatible with your system (i.e. you buy a
ballast that needs a separate igniter but your system has the igniter
integrated into the ballast).

I had a headlight out on my B5 S4.  I tried a bulb but, no dice.

I guess I need a ballast.  What the hell do I buy?  $500 factory one?
$16.99 Ebay special?  something in between?

Do I upgrade?  I am not HID savvy, need help!
