[s-cars] detectors

Steve

I can't offer much assistance with the detector recommendation as I
haven't used one for almost 20 years but I can whole heartedly recommend
using a CB. I think Bob Myers may have the same one I use - the Cobra
75WX and I know Chris Chambers also has one. It's the only way I know
of to learn where the traps are when they may be 30 or 100 miles ahead
of you. You still have to use the old noggin like JC says. They are
also great to find out about traffic and accident issues - which lane is
closed, which lane is getting by, should you exit and take an alternate
route, etc. That information is almost always free flowing and "most"
truckers keep the language clean.

This model of CB has all the controls built into the microphone -
on/off, channel, volume, squelch, etc. The mic connects to a silver box
(just like the CD player in the S-car) and then to any antennae. I have
a permanent antennae mounted on my trunk with a cable running under the
back seat where the silver box is located. From there I have a cable
running under the carpet into the center console and up into the
cell-phone arm rest. My car never had the cell phone so I store the CB
mic in there all connected. Easy to get to and never in the way. When
I drive my SUV for towing, I pull the CB from the arm rest and plug it
into the silver box in my SUV.

It's not the strongest CB but it pushes out over 5 miles. Chris and I
used it a lot last you on the S-Fest Caravan along with several V1s in
other cars and 2-way hand-held radios. I must say we enjoyed over an
hour straight of excessiveness. The only thing we picked up on the way
was a BMW 7 series and an M-car AMG - both which were quite happy to tag
along with 5 Scars.

The other nice thing about the CB that the V1 really can't help with is
staying awake. The CB can be quite entertaining some trips.
