I would go with the V1- I need to get mine updated, but it's saved me
thousands in fines.

Depending on where you're driving, a CB is going to be more informative,
though- if there's no one ahead of you, a V1 isn't going to help you with
instant-on radar or laser because you'll have no advance warning.

If you're serious, you need to get one of those Uniden Bearcat trunk
scanners that will automatically seek police transmissions in the area. Also
a repeater detector would help (some of the Unidens have this) if the
trooper is dumb enough to sit in his car with his belt radio on.

Call V1 and see if they have a refurb to sell you- will save you $50.
