With regard to upgrading your V1, you may want to consider just buying a new
one and selling yours on Ebay.  It will probably cost you less in the end.
That's what I did a few years ago when I wanted to upgrade my Ver 1.7 to a
Ver 1.8.  Back then I saw used V1s go for nearly the price of a new one.  I
sold mine for $306.  Upgrade would have cost me $189, so for less than $100
I got my "upgrade".  Don't know what the current selling prices are for V1s
on Ebay, but if it's in good shape and you have all the accessories and
original box, you should be able to get a good price.  If your V1 is older
than a Ver 1.7, then it will make even more sense to sell yours rather than
trade it in as the upgrade cost for the older versions is $289 if I recall
correctly.

BTW, when you send a V1 in for an upgrade they don't actually upgrade it.
They just send you a brand new unit.
