I've got a 2004 Jetta GLS TDI 5-speed sedan, and my wife has a 2009 Jetta Sportwagen TDI 6-speed wagon. We love them both. I've replaced the turbo in my 2004, and chipped it, and now am sporting something like 170hp, 270lb-ft, and retaining 42-45mpg. Smoking new 2.0T GTIs is fun. Almost as much fun as casually signalling to pull in front of the punked, Folgers-exhausted Civic after dusting it in the S6 Avant with kid seats.
The new A3 TDI looks like only FWD and slushbox. Dopes at AoA. Again. I would love to find a manual gearbox quattro TDI, too, but am not holding out any hopes for one any time soon.
