[s-cars] Fuel line leak: replace or fix?

Konstantine;

I replaced the fuel lines in my '97 S6 with Nylon 11 fuel line. It comes in
the same diameter as the metal line and you use special compression fittings
to join the plastic line to the metal line. You don't have to drop the tank
- just cut out the length of damaged metal line and splice in the Nylon
line. I replaced the full length of the vapour and return lines with Nylon.
My high pressure line was OK, so I cleaned it and gave it a couple coats of
POR-15. The Nylon line is not as stiff as the metal and will sag between the
mounts if you make it too long, so get the length right.
The only potential problem with Nylon line is impact with road debris at
very cold temperatures - I don't know how resistant it is to shattering, but
VW has been using it for fuel lines for years.

Subject: [s-cars] Fuel line leak: replace or fix?

  Gents,

I noticed a droplet on the fuel line of my S4 '93, at one of the
clamps/holders at the mid length of the car. Smells like gasoline. Is
there a write-up on how to fix a leak in the fuel line or replace it?
How difficult full replacement is? I remember vaguely I've heard the
tank must be dropped. Is this the case?

Thank you.
Konstantine
