[s-cars] S6 steering rack needed

If you order the $900 one from Napa, they make a point of telling you that
it is specially diamond honed, such that they can provide their lifetime
warranty. I'll have to check with Jorgen and a couple of other places
tomorrow.
Just flew back to Houston from New Orleans. Took a drive around with an old
friend at lunch yesterday to see what had and had not come back. Some good,
lots still depressing. The system failed miserably in terms of providing
timely support for people to rebuild. And that's on top of the failures
that caused the disaster. When people talk about it now, they seem to have
the frame of mind that the hurricane destroyed New Orleans.it didn't;
Corruption of the Levee boards and parish governments and ineptness of the
Corp in managing things with those other entities just makes you furious
when you remember how it went.

I went through 3 before I got a good one on my 5kcstw. Failure interval was
about 18 months. They used to have an unlimited warranty...
They claimed to have located the problem that caused the failures and
corrected it, but who knows? FYI, the change they implemented was to polish
the operating piston on the hydraulic cylinder to a different surface
quality using a diamond hone. Apparently the teflon seals used by zf require
a different surface finish in order to last.

The Jorgen I installed in my '89 200Q started leaking after about 18
months. Maybe I was the statistical outlyer, but this has opened me up to
other possibilities when I have to do a rack again.
