Chad -
I had slight misfires in my 2.8 which seemed to be driven by it's tendency
to foul plugs.
If I put in fresh plugs in it would clear right up. A hotter plug helped a
lot.
This was all a bit odd as ECU reported otherwise no problems and correct
mixture etc. (new O2 sensors, cats, etc.... went down lots of roads trying
to sort it...)
At one point I thought it was the wasted-spark coil block and replaced it
but in the long run turned out not to be the case. Never really sorted out
why but the plugs were a workaround that patched it up. You might have a
look at that see if it helps.
BTW, I didn't think the 3.0 was really that different from the 30v2.8.
The 3.2FSI yes but the 2.8-3.0 30v diffs are fairly minor I thought. Welcome
any education to the contrary...
Re: other irritating interior/AC etc. probs with the car, yep that's my
experience with the C5. Little stuff going wrong periodically in various
areas of interior/convenience/climate/electrical/etc. Washer pumps that
break. Bad instrument cluster displays. Poor fitment of little plastic
interior parts. AC head going on the fritz. Just one little minor crappy
thing after another.
This is odd because the 3 A4's of comparable vintage in our family, with
generally equivalent equipment, (aka very similar gear in instrument
cluster, AC head, etc., same kind of plastic in the interior in theory...)
have been virtually flawless.
Maybe there's just a bunch of disgruntled guys working the A6/Allroad line
in Neckarsulm vs. Ingolstadt.
Actually I typed that as a joke but now I'm starting to wonder...
