Although the admittedly the very low mileage 2.8 30V in Mom's Passat has so
far proven to be reliable, and it's more than adequate in terms of
performance with 4-motion and a tip, it's a gas hog. In local driving, it's
about all it can do in terms of MPG to get in the mid-teens, and the best
it's ever done on the highway is in the low to mid (more like low)
twenties.
