Some say ("some say he butters his toast with assembly lube, and that he
once ran the panamericana in a turbine powered VW Thing! all we know is...")
that the old trick of using water in place of Seafoam in the first part of
that procedure (the drizzled into a vacuum hose part) is just as effective
in removing build-up.  of course completely stalling a car out with water is
generally not advised, unless the intent IS to alter large metal parts in
violent ways.

I did try the Seafoam trick a year or two ago for the hell of it. makes a
ton of smoke as advertised. car ran smooth afterwards, but, then again
didn't run too badly before. now that borescopes are cheap and easily
obtained, would be easy to do a home inspection and before/after comparison
actually.  not sure I'd bother again.
