Well, according to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), both words have been in consistent use since the mid-1600s. Even if one were more recent, that doesn't necessarily make it wrong--English is a *living* language, despite you conservative types! :^P 

I expect you'll now stop using "argumentative" and switch to "argumentive"?
