Just to give everyone a bit of an update...
The unit pulled from my car is the undeniably unserviceable integrated unit. It
looks like the race is cast in the aluminum housing...can't do nuttin' with it.
So, I'm looking to source a bracket with a serviceable bearing set from a lister. If
that doesn't seem like it will work out, I'll call Chris Semple and see what he's
got avaialble. The cost of the bearing set from Park Place Motors, with the 20% audi
club discount is $78, plus another $10 for shipping. I will look into a bearing
shop around here in Houston, too.
FWIW, Travis at Park Place did some investigating for me and called Audi with my
VIN. According to them, I should have had the serviceable unit, but it must have
been replaced by the original owner. With that kind of life expectancy...at least
two in under 140k, I think a used serviceable unit is the only way to go. Just plan
on replacing it at each TB service...
All advice, and any additional forthcoming, is and has been most appreciated. Kee it
coming.
Those S6's on ebay sure look tempting... NO room, but after driving the stock '08
A4q S line, the nasty 300hp mit coilover '07 A4q and the old S6 back-to-back-to-back
the day I took the car in, guess which one still generates the most smiles? Still
got to figure why it's running so rich with another new O2 sensor, and why the RF
brake is squealing so badly. Oh yeah, and why the rack is now seeping faster (who
rebuilds those things...Jorgen?) I seem to have hit a very steep part of the
slippery slope right now...
Thanks again,
Steve
