[s-cars] Are you guys watching this Toyota fiasco ?

I heard on the news tonight that its more like the pedal assy/rheostat is at
fault. Much like our clutch pedals when the master or slave fails, it
doesn't return due probably to the return spring failing. I'd imagine it
would be pretty scary stuff, especially if one didn't have the wits about
them to shut the ignition off when it happens.

Jeffster-

Its more than the floormats.

There have been a few dozen incidents already where the crashed Camry's had
the floor mats in the trunk as per instructed...but still had unintended
acceleration.

Scary stuff considering there's a large demographic of geriatrics and elder
folks driving Camry's, Solara's, Highlanders and a few other models.

I think the Camry's and Highlanders are fly-by wire....so it must be a
solenoid issue, not too different than the 99-2000 Volvo V70 acceleration
issues.

Lucky for Volvo they issued a TSB that offerered a Lifetime Warranty on
their TB units and got it done rather quietly.

I've already seen a few 18 wheelers carting off Yota's that were from dealer
lots...as they didn't have the protective transport wraps normally seen on
them when they come from the Ohio plant.

There's going to be some serious hari-kare in Japan in the next few weeks.
I'm sure we'll hear about it sooner than later.

I'm being serious.

This is totally unacceptable in Japanese culture.....even if they're US
Toyota's.

man, this is hilarious..

Recalling in USA, Europe and China. suspended sales.. . and now Ford stopped
production (I think) because the Indiana gas pedal supplier's part number
was identifed somewhere out there..
Audi engineers, the old grey ones, must be chuckling while sipping
Yeagermeister.. having singed hair with Mr F-n Wallace.. Unintended
Acceleration series.

All jousting aside, it looks to ME like the damn floor mat simply slides
foreward and interferes and wedged the pedal.. I mean, it could happen to
any OEM.. maybe.

just clear yer floor mat Mate, before ya; peg it!
