I'm right @ 205K right now. Consumption seems to vary from what I can see so I'm trying to pay a little closer attention to how much is being used.
We'll see.

Wylie,
How many miles do you have on your car? I've got 185k on my avant and have
very low oil consumption. My sedan, however, had some pretty serious oil
consumption issues at 240k so at the timing belt service, I had the valve
stem seals changed. It went from using a over a qt/1000 miles to less than
1/2 qt between 5000 mile changes. My old 5ktq was the same way and we
changed the VSS and fixed 95% of the consumtion. Most 5 cylinders that I've
experienced using oil have bad valve stem seals and there's little you can
do other than change them to fix them.
BTW, I use Lubromoly synthetic 15/40 and have had zero issues with my oil.
I've also used properly rated Elf (now Total) and Pentosynth 15/40 with good
results. The AAN really seems to like that weight and I use it year round.

One reason for my switch was consumption. Using Castrol GTX 20W-50 I was
experiencing fairly heavy consumption. I ended up going with M1 15W50 so
we'll see how it goes this interval.

I had plenty of lifter tick using Syntec after a hard run on my 200 10VT.
The few times I tried autocrossing the 200 (not worth it, IMHO) the lifter
tick would take as much as 1/2 hour after a run to subside. There was still
lifter tick with M1 (closest weight as possible to the Castrol, M1 15W50 vs.
Syntec 10W-50), but it was much less severe and lasted for much shorter
periods. Since then quit using Syntec. No such problems using M1 in the S6,
although there has been more consumption (as in, there is some) using
15W50. I've had no consumption running M1 10W30.
