[s-cars] track tire recommendations

Gents,
This may have been covered once or twice before, but I didn't seen
anything specific in the archives.
I autocrossed my B5 A4 on Sunday and ran some older Dunlop R
compound tires rather than my street Dunlop Direzzas. Decent grip,
felt good about not chewing up my Direzzas.
Then on Wednesday, I spent the day at Lime Rock with the Porsche
club. As one of the Dunlop race tires have a minor tread issue, I
ran the Direzzas. They were great, but got a little greasy toward
the end of each run. I also didn't feel good about wailing on my
street tires!
So I'm looking for a set of track tires. My next track event is at
the Glen in August, so I have some time to find and get them set
up...
I'm running 17" wheels, 245/40 series tires. Just a touch of rub
on the right front fender, so a wide 235 (Kumho) would be an
alternative to a "regular" 245.
What tires do people like these days? The A4 corners fairly well
(springs/bars) and stops very well (Boxster S front, S4 rear
brakes). It could use a bit more power. :)
I'm looking for a consistent tire that will last a while...don't
need the ultimate in grip, but want something that's predictable.
Also, if you have any recommendations on where I can pick up ~50
horsepower for $500, I'd appreciate it. :) (The car already has an
APR chip and a Milltek exhaust). Everyone was pretty surprised at
how well the Audi did...good speed through most of the course,
just a bit slow up the hill and down the straight. Of course, that
gave the Carrera GT in my run group a couple of opportunities to
pass :)
Thanks,
Lee
