No, it's not treadwear that's the issue with HPDE, Larry- it's the heat.
Running a heavy car with relatively small tires makes it really hard on the
tires. DOT-Rs last longer than street tires at the track because they don't
overheat as much, due to the lack of tread squirm and a more heat-tolerant
compound.
