Martin,
fine threads and tight clearance can be lost of fun. Make sure you are attaching the rack end first - much easier if the pump end is loose.
Best trick I've learned for the washers is to do a figure 8 with a rubber-band around the banjo and both washers - holds everything in place while you deal with the alignment - once the threads catch just snip the rubber-band. Half the hassle with the alignment is trying to keep the washers in place.

I am hoping that someone could give me some guidance on how to get the high
pressure hose back on as I am having problems getting the banjo bolt that
connects the hose to the steering rack to screw back in. It came out easily
but I cannot get it to thread back in and it is in a very difficult location
to manipulate. Any advice would be appreciated as my car is now stuck unless
I can get this line back on.
