I don't think Collins outed himself, the author of the book (funny how the
publisher has the same surname in it though, eh?) did based upon public
payment records (since the beeb is a gov't entitiy) and some other
speculation. At least that's how I read it. I don't think Collins actually
benefits from this, in effect, he's just another pro-driver whom has
probably just lost another gig.
