I like what JC is saying, and I'll just add that I like to heavily score the surface in this type of situation. The more surface area the glue has to bond to the better. Also these adhesives are much stronger in shear than tension, so deep scoring gives some small but important surfaces 90 degrees to the direction of the force trying to pull the clip off. I use my pocket knife or the corner of a very sharp chisel FWIW.
