[s-cars] Audi A3 transformers - Anyone know how to activate?

Ha! I like the "megatronic"... I can see the underqualified, stoned and
confuzed service-writer's handwriting already....

It's the "MECHAtronic", and it's a massive known problem for the DSG tranny
and it appears the originals were pieces of $h!t. Symptoms are usually first
a lag or delay going into 1st or reverse (often attempting to roll into
things on hills while it's stuck in neutral waiting to kick in...), then
increasingly crappy shifts, especially in lower gears, and then eventually
going as far as not going into reverse at all, sometimes 1st gear as well.

Audi is playing semantics and accounting games in not declaring it a recall
but an "update program" or some such similar horse$h!t.

This means instead of having to slap all the cost on the books in one
quarter(there's about a gazillion cars affected) they have some secret
algorithm that sends out X many Ed McMahon letters a month to tell you
"Congratulations! You are a WINNER! Your serial number has come up and you
get a free Mechatronic fix!". People with mild symptoms have been denied
and told to wait for the letter because "well it's not a recall! no fix
unless you get the letter! no I can't tell you why or when you get the
letter... maybe you will... or maybe you won't!". If your car really craps
out (guys have gotten stuck not being able to back out of parking spaces)
they WILL usually man up and fix it, but if it's just running like crap they
will hem & haw until you get the letter. I think maybe 2006 cars are @h!T
out of luck and not included but don't remember exactly what the cut-off
was.

Once the new "megatronic" is installed the tranny warranty is extended to
100k. The fix includes a whole new pump/valve mechanism (from underneath it
looks like a shiny new big goddamn expensive assembly so I can see why they
are trying to sneak around and hide it from hitting their cashflow too hard)
and updating the DSG software as well. The fix is great and the tranny
actually works better than new afterwards.

BTW, adding to the "MEGAtronic" hilarity, the fact that your dealer didn't
A. know cr at p about this whole situation, or B. at least figure out that
there was a tranny problem, is a good indicator your dealer sucks a bag of
dead cat ass and I'd look for another one tout suite.
