Have been dealing with the same issue since I replaced my pump also, just haven't gotten around to fixing it.  The sensor is actually a float that is in the rectangular part of the pump body just below the top inlet that goes into the upper grommet on the tank.  The float is probably stuck, as I believe the float breaks the contact when it floats up on the washer fluid.  My problem is with an $18 replacement pump from the FLAPS near me as I didn't want to pay for the pricey OEM one.  I'll probably try to fix the cheapie one first before I swap in a used OEM replacement I got from a guy I've sold parts to before.  Good luck.

Need a little help with an annoying low washer fluid warning light on my
95 S6.  I replaced the windshield washer pump this winter and ever since
then my low fluid warning light has been on even if the reservoir is
full.  I rechecked the connectors to make sure they were on tight but no
luck with the warning light.  Is the sensor part of the pump?  There are
3 wires to it.  Could I have just received a new pump with a bad
sensor?  The pump works good as does the headlight washers - just an
annoying low fluid level warning light.

Also, what size is the tubing that runs from the pump to the spray jets
in the hood?  6mm or 10mm?  Mine is extremely brittle and I'd like to
replace all of it while I have access to the pump connection.
