+2 on Jack's advice.
Most people can't afford to buy or rent another car before the settlement so
they are forced to accept any settlement quickly. Apparently, that's a game
insurance companies love to play. But if you can afford to let them sit on
their offer for a few month, it easily triple the initial offer. BTDT.
Twice. Sadly.
Also, but it may work in Canada only where legal disputes are not as common,
using this little sentence "I am now considering using all legal means
available to enforce my rights" after a few month sending documents
justifying your position close the dispute _very_ quickly... at your
advantage. I even received, for one of the car, 10% more than I asked.
To help you start, Cragilist has two 95 S6 Avant ads currently

- Vineland: 7500$ http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/2234056652.html

Sean,
So sorry to hear about your loss, hope you didn't have any personal
injury..here's what I did.
FYI:
My S6A was totaled and I received $9800 as a settlement this last Nov 1st!
There really wasn't an undamaged panel, I was rear ended while stopped by a
3/4ton Chev P/U at about 35 and then proceeded into cars in front of me!
My Avant had 230,000 miles, I worked them over forever, it was sitting at a
towing salvage yard and the storage was racking up daily I really had
nothing to lose with waiting them out. My wife wanted to settle at $7500,
their first offer was $3500 for an A6A. But I had receipts to show the oil
pan off, new bearing on the rods, and a rebuilt head all within 10,000 mles.
A full RS2 kit. Turbo, MAF, Injectors, EM and software. New tires, just on
the car! Front suspension rebuilt in previous 20,000 miles. And all oil
changes every 3-4K, all service work..
So it helps to keep records!
There might still be the for sale notices of S6As on Audifans, Quattroworld,
ect. there was a guy on there with 6speed that wanted something like $13K.
Show them as many previous and current comparables as you can, don't be in
the least shy of telling them how many of these "rare" Avants are left! All
your extra wheels and tires, additional parts, ect it all adds value to the
car! Just start typing up a laudry list of everything you have done
If you have the opportunity don't let someone like CoParts have the car,
keep it in your driveway or mechanics control, when mine went to Co Parts
(one of the nation's largest salvage yards) they set the salvage value and
their storage while higher than what your mechanics yard, I had to deal with
buying back at their salvage value which I though was steep at $600! But
it's all because their storage is so high. I had the opp to do this
previously with a 91' 200 TQA and the value of storing it in my driveway
made the buy back much less, course they didn't pay me as much for the
storage fees..think I got $200 for 3 months storage, but I paid $350 to buy
that back and settled for like $9,000. Bought a headlight, some trim pieces,
fender and hood and was down the road for something like $700 including
having it painted.
As much as you can wait the insurance out, the better, your insurance
company is going say once they make their offer to you on the car's value
their responsibility to pay for a rental is done! Go out and buy a beater!
They also have to have to go after the guy that pulled out in front of you,
they will make you cough up the deductable..but if you have proof it's the
other guys fault you can make your insurance company collect your deductable
and pay it back to you, if you can't you'll be out the deductable.
There's an opportunity to part out the Avant, don't forget that!

Last week my 95.5 S6 avant was involved in an accident (other person pulled
out in front of me) the estimate for repairs is $3275 and the insurance
company wants to total it.? I need to get a fair market value for the car to
see if I can change their mind.? I have seen a couple of ads on-line, one
was for $8000 and the other was highly modified for around $9500.? Anybody
else sold theirs or bought one recently...
Mine has 176,xxx miles on it and the rest of it is stock except for it has a
2Bennet coil over kit on it.? Colors are white ext, black int.? The damage
is hood, right front fender, bumper cover, possibly right bumper strut,
right headlight, right corner light and possibly some core support work
needed (have not opened hood yet)
Thanks
