Yeah, so that was me that did the R12 to R134a swap on my '92 S4. The good points are the A/C works extraordinarily well and that parts are still available for it. 

The bad points are it is NOT a bolt on swap in all aspects. Now all the large hard parts bolt on, but the thread pitch is different between the R12 and R134a stuff, which meant having to build 3 hoses. 

That was a PITA and that one hard line for the receiver dryer almost brought us to a crashing halt. No one could weld on the new fittings, the aluminum was so thin they'd burn through it. Finally found someone to successfully braze it on there and we were in business. 

I went through this because I had a bad condenser and compressor, but I wish I would've just sourced good used R12 ones and bit the bullet on the freon...
