Bob,
I put Bilstein HDs on my '95 urS6 sedan with OEM springs. Had my local
import mechanic at the time source the parts and install, but that was
several years and a couple moves ago, so I don't think the odds of my
digging up the part numbers are very good.
When I first got the car back the ride was extremely firm... almost
punishing on all but the smoothest roads. I was starting to think
adjustable Konis might have been a good idea, but after a couple months the
Bilsteins broke in I have been pleased with them ever since--still quite
firm but not too harsh (except on certain frost-heaved Wisconsin roads!)
Also, I didn't take careful before-and-after measurements, but the car seems
to sit a little higher with the Bilsteins... perhaps 3/4 of an inch. I
assume the gas pressure in the shocks is taking a little load off the
springs? The look isn't great--too much space above the tires, but these
days I can use the extra ground clearance for dealing with unplowed snow.
Not sure if anyone else has experienced the ride-height increase with the
Bilstein HDs....
