My A8q usually gets high teens in town (17-19) and 24-26 highway depending on how easy you are on it.
I've rebuilt the trans twice myself (for unrelated issues, first time was when I bought the car with the trans broken) for a total cost of about $550 total between the two (and $300 of that has been in the transmission oil). All in all I'm in my A8q for somewhere between $1500-1700. The body is like new with only one scratch on the entire thing, interior has a small amount of wear on the drivers floor mat. That includes the H&R coilovers and 18x9" wheels. Sure that's a rare thing, but good A8's aren't that far off good urS prices.

With the slushbox, you lose the sporting aspect, IMO. The fuel mileage, well, you might have managed 26 on the highway, but I sure never saw that. More commonly were figures in the low to mid teens for mixed driving.
