I'm guessing it's the same general parts as used by the rebuild outfits
right? Just like brake calipers or alternators you can try to rebuild
yourself, sometimes this is an easy nobrainer and a microfraction of the
cost of a rebuilt. Most of the time it's worth paying the extra for
somebody else to do it to avoid the hassles and time and get a warranty even
if its somewhat limited. I might not want to screw w/ the PS pump myself as
I would guess there's some arbor press work required to get things apart and
precision high pressure seals to get wright. Another place where
home-rebuilding goes awry is when you don't have a mic and tolerance specs
to check worn parts and see if they are worth reusing or need replacing
which is what good rebuilders are doing. If it was a 2nd/3rd car non-urgent
I might try it for fun with a buy-a-rebuild as a fallback although you'd
have to piece your core back together enough so that they'll take it...

Intrigued by the idea of the GM PS pump retrofit though.
