It sounds like you have diagnosed your problem on your own, Bill.  No  
need to go further, just take Cody's advice and change the
ignition switch.  If the keyed lock cylinder seems to be in good  
condition, only the electrical part on the back of the cylinder needs  
to be
replaced.

You should find some instructions on changing the electrical portion  
of the ignition  switch in the FAQ at Quattroworld.com or s-cars.org.
Just buy the genuine Audi part from the dealer.   
genuinevwaudiparts.com is an Audi dealer that discounts parts, but you  
would probably
need to buy additional parts to justify the shipping cost.  The  
catalog is pretty sad, so be sure to include your model and VIN if you  
order
parts so they can verify correctness.
