I just did thsi this weekend - same problem.

remove carb. Remove float bowl. Remove needles. Clean with gummout in both directions - preferably the opposite why the gas flows ( which can be difficult or impossible). Make sure some gummout goes in one side and out the other. Re assemble.

Toss old gas. Preferably clean out tank. I used hto water and detergent. Yes i did. Has to dry very well.

Re assemble. Lightly bottom needle. Back off 1/1/2- 1 3/4 turns Start. Run a long time to continue the cleaning.

I saw a suggestion for seafoam whatever thatis. Doesn't matter - until your varnish clogs are gone, nothing will get in and help.

He has a nearly new condition but long stored self propelled lawn mower which will briefly fire up when he yanks on the starter cord but then it dies almost immediately. My suggestion to him was to put some Sta-Bil in the fuel tank back when he more stored the machine a while back. Somehow that didn't help him a whole lot this week. ;-)
