Bob,

Have your son check for extended warranties that may have been enacted by MB for poor supplier quality if this is a common failure. Sometimes these replacements are made available by the supplier to keep MB happy if they've had enough complaints. I'm not familiar with that head unit or manufacturer, but it's worth asking MBUSA's toll-free number or probe the dealer service department.
