[s-cars] Auto-Locking System Emergency

So I've found the culprit: vacuum/pump is getting activated properly, but sounds like a dying duck. I couldn't even hear it trying inside the foam box it's in. I think leaking acid from the battery might have killed it. Foam is between damp and soaked on the side against the battery. Why would battery be leaking? Seems to be seeping a bit from seam near top edge. I found replacement pump on eBay for $55. And I guess I need to buy a new battery even though this one is still cranking strong. Just had that pleasure with my other car, the '01 A6 2.7t, to the tune of $160. Bummer. Any suggestions about the foam "box"? Should I rinse with soap and water and just dry real well? Will that take the acid out? Anything else I should know here? Thanks again for the help earlier!
