[s-cars] radar detector time; V1 or Passport 9500?

So, it seems that it would make sense to get a new detector before the
upcoming holiday road trip, as I passed my old one on to my son. The
V1 seems to be pretty much the same; great long distance sensitivity,
but so real discrimination around town, so it can get pretty annoying.
 The 9500 would seem to have upped Escorts' game with lots of
features, while providing excellent discrimination and sensitivity.
Has it actually become the better choice?

Any new insights?
