For a quicky fab, I'd fab from stainless welding rod, for both
spring-quality and corrosion reasons. I always steal a handful of
various welding rod from my Dad when I visit just for these occasions,
so I have a stash of various sizes. Newer BMW cooling systems are
famous for their snap-ring retained hose systems for which NONE of the
snap rings are available on their own (only with a full hose assembly
$$$) and every junkyard car has been stripped, so apparently the savvy
trick is self-fabricating those as well. When I had to do it for one, I
didn't just do a horseshoe-clip style, but left tails that could be
twisted together to really lock it in place, safety-wire style. Don't
really want your coolant hoses blowing off at speed due to a homebrewed
retention clip.
