Did you change the resetting fuses that are above the CPU, with standard 15 amp blade fuses. I had trouble with them and replaced all three. Before that I was having trouble starting in very cold weather. The later 95 models have the standard blade fuses.

Hey gang, I'm posting this for a lister who is having trouble posting....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi respected listers,
Having been a long time owner of a RS2ed S4, I went to help a friend who’s
1992 S4 wasn’t starting. It ran fine the day before, washed it and the next
day wouldn’t start. Engine turns over but does not catch. I figured the CPS
as the most likely culprit. Went to pull the codes with a VAG-COM, and
could not establish communications with the ECU. Hmm. Tired the HVAC and it
responded just fine.
I went to check the fuses for the ECU thinking one of them had gone. Nope,
all were intact. Went back to the VAG-COM, and presto, I can communicate
with the ECU. Car starts up pretty much right away. The only thing I can
think is that the ECU was hung, and pulling the fuse “rebooted” it. Now my
friend wants to know how this happened, and could it happen again? I
suppose it can happen again, because it did.
I don’t remember reading anything like this over the years or did I miss
something? Ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards, Denis
