....What he said.  I buy my coils from the dealer and it's gotten me the latest greatest and so far no issues whatsoever.  They run me about 17 or 18$/ea but the parts guys sell to me @ wholesale/jobber cost.  Just to keep them honest I check online but they stay within a few dollars of what Miramar used to sell dealer-only parts for (adding in for shipping) and to not have ta' wait is worth it to me, and they make a sale locally.

Wylie answered most of the questions.  Both kits are at the core, A. 
just a wiring harness that B. uses widely available "generic" coils.  
The so-called LS2 kit uses any of a wide variety of GM coils used mostly 
on LS1/2/3/7/etc V8's in things like big trucks and vettes and camaros 
and they need to be mounted somehow as they are not "COP" (coil over 
plug).  The Audi kit uses any of a number of OEM Audi COP coils. A third 
proven aftermarket solution is the 034 HO system which are some kind of 
Marine Coil and has lifetime warranty IIRC.  You can run no coil cover 
with either one, or with the LS2/034 systems, refit the OEM coil cover 
(I don't), or, with the 1.8T/2.0T COPs, use the Apikol decorative cover 
made for that purpose.

Pros/cons to all. Yes the Audi coils do seem to fail over time but 
they're cheap and easy peasy to swap out so you keep a spare in your 
trunk.  IME they are possibly more plug & play on a basic street car vs. 
the LSx which can be sensitive to charging system current/voltage being 
up to par and having good plug wires to go with.  I had trouble with 
them until I had a new VR and the $$$ Maggie wires now they are 
perfect.  The LSx are probably a bit hotter but not so much that it 
matters at all until you get up to crazy power levels - lots of guys 
running fine well beyond RS2 w/ the 1.8T/2.0T setups.

Whether new or used check to see if what you are buying is just the 
harness or includes coils.  Instructions also on the web on how to 
homebrew the harness for either one, but really the quality of the 
pre-mades are well worth the money vs the hassle unless you're on super 
budget.

In both cases (LS2 or 2.0T) there are different specific coils that can 
be used and painfully long interwebz debates about what /specific part 
number /of coil is best - for GM there are D535/D514/etc, for Audi coils 
there are 115x-various-letter-suffices.   If you buy from a reputable 
vendor he's probably making sure he's getting you a good coil that will 
work.
